High level Conference: “What kind of Police does Lithuania and Europe need”
In the period from 1-4 October 2024, CESP delegation was invited to visit Lithuania and make intervention at the High level Conference, “What kind of Police does Lithuania and Europe need”, organized by the Lithuanian Police Union (LPPS) in the Lithuanian Parliament on October 1, 2024.
The Conference was organized in the framework of the celebration of the National Police Day of Lithuania, on which CESP President, Ricardo Valadas had a speech in Session 1, together with the Minister of Interior of Lithuania, Ms. Bilotaite and the Police Director, Mr. Pozela.
The Conference was attended by politicians from the different political parties in Lithuania, representatives from the Ministry of Interior, as well as union representatives.
The Conference was preceded by a march of the Lithuanian Police Union, gathering more than 500 police officers, emphasizing issues they face such as low salaries, lack of police officers, lack of new recruits in the police, overload, pension reforms, etc.
CESP President Valadas was also asked to give an interview for the National Platform of Journalists in Lithuania and national media in which he presented CESP mission and vision on the European Police model, and gave as well as commentaries on the overall security landscape in Europe.
As part of the visit, CESP delegation had official meetings with the Police Director of Kaunas District, Mr. Mindaugas Barsys, the President of the Lithuanian Police Union, Ms. Roma Katiniene, as well as with other Union representatives.
