The European Council of Police Unions organized the Pre-release of the Strategic Document: “Nurturing the seeds of change: How a new police approach can shape the future of Europe”, on April 11, in the CESP Office in Brussels. Prior to the event, CESP President Ricardo Valadas had a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Interior of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Oliver Spasovski, accompanied by a governmental delegation and a delegation of the Mission in Brussels.
The presentation of the Strategic Document was attended by high level representatives from the European Institutions and International Organizations, high level state representatives, CESP members, representatives from the Embassies of the countries and from representatives of the countries in the EU, researchers from different organizations, and other interested parties.
The event was opened by the Deputy Director of the Representation of the State of Hessen to the European Union, Mr. Peter-Claus Appel, followed by addresses of Mr. Oliver Spasovski, the Minister of Interior of the Republic of North Macedonia and Mr. Paulo Rangel, member of the European Parliament.
In his speech, the Minister of Interior, Spasovski, emphasized the efforts of CESP in the creation of such an important Strategic document that reflects the mission and vision of this organization in the direction of establishment of a new police service as a guarantor of European values and citizens’ wellbeing. The Minister also stressed the commitment of the Ministry of Interior to comply with the suggested proposals and activities in the Document, that are measurable, adequate and applicable to the everyday police operations in the country.
Mr. Paulo Rangel, the member of the European Parliament pointed out that CESP is a very important organization to the future of police work and that the strategic document is a very good document in order to deconstruct the idea of an old police model. Nurturing the seeds of change, is intended to explain the police work and the humanization of the police professionals. There is no freedom without security and confirmed our view that the police must be the protectors of fundamental human rights.
During the event, the official promotion of the Strategic Document was announced in May, Rome, during the EC of CESP after which other presentations will follow according to the institutional needs.
