Visit of Kosovo Police Union, Observer in CESP
In the period from October 24 to 27, 2024, the General Secretary of the European Council of Police Unions (CESP), Jesus Lira Calvo, attended the annual gathering of the Kosovo Police Union (KPU) in Prizren, Kosovo.
The event gathered distinguished officials, including Deputy Minister of Interior, Mr. Dobra, and the Deputy General Police Director, Mr. Ajvazi, alongside high-ranking representatives from both the Ministry of Interior and the Kosovo Police. Their presence highlighted the importance of inter-institutional dialogue in addressing contemporary policing challenges.
This gathering served as a platform for dialogue and knowledge exchange, allowing participants to discuss various pressing police matters. A special emphasis was placed on the socio-economic conditions faced by police officers in Kosovo, shedding light on the complex challenges they encountered in their line of duty.
Throughout the discussions, the representatives exchanged experiences, insights and emphasized the necessity of supporting initiatives aimed at improving working conditions for police personnel. The importance of providing decent working environments and ensuring the well-being of officers was a key theme, reflecting a shared commitment by the Police Union to foster a supportive atmosphere within law enforcement.
The event gathered representatives from Cyprus, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Croatia and Albania and not only reinforced the solidarity among police unions but also emphasized the need for continuous dialogue and mutual support. Through such interaction police officers can better navigate the complexities of their roles while ensuring their rights and welfare are prioritized in the evolving landscape of law enforcement.
