After receiving information of concern from the Macedonian Police Union (MPS), our member from the Republic of North Macedonia, regarding current developments in the trade union movement in the country, the President of the European Council of Police Unions (CESP), Ricardo Valadas, on behalf of CESP has express his concern to the technical Minister of Interior, Mr. Nake Chulev.

In the communication, Mr. Valadas expressed the concern about the anti-union activities in the country, the weakening of the only representative trade union, by violating the right to freedom of association, and emphasized that the freedom of association is an individual freedom, protected by all international texts on human rights protection and by national constitutions.

Also, CESP strongly condemned the attacks on the trade union movement, especially in a period of COVID-19 pandemic, where the emphasis should be put on the protection and promotion of police rights, through joint social dialogue with the representative social partners.

The quick intervention of CESP had an important echo in the national press.
