“The protection of citizens inevitably rests on the protection of those who defend them every day – the women and men in uniform,” stated Massimo Denarier, President of the European Council of Police Unions (CESP), during his address at the European Parliament.

In his remarks, President Denarier highlighted the importance of ensuring that European policymakers fully recognise the essential role played by police officers across all EU Member States, particularly in the current geopolitical and security context. He emphasised that police forces remain at the forefront of protecting democratic societies, often operating under increasingly complex and demanding conditions.

The intervention also drew attention to the risks, vulnerabilities and personal sacrifices that police officers face on a daily basis while ensuring the safety and security of citizens. By raising these issues before Members of the European Parliament, CESP sought to underline the need for greater recognition of policing as a high-risk profession and for stronger support for the women and men who serve on the front line of Europe’s security.
