CESP Executive Committee meeting in Rome, Italy
In the period from 15-17 May 2023 in Rome, Italy, the European Council of Police Unions held its Executive Committee Meeting (ECM) with the help of our colleagues from Sindacato Autonomo di Polizia (SAP), Italy.
Prior to the ECM, CESP held its Executive Bureau meeting along with a meeting of the working group of the Anti-crime Committee.
The ECM meeting was opened by SAP General Secretary, Stefano Paoloni and the CESP President, Ricardo Valadas and was attended by all 14 members of CESP who discussed the current situation with the police activities in Europe, with special focus on the national activities of each member. The ECM was also attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior of Italy, Hon. Nicola Molteni who addressed the audience during the official ceremony, as well as other officials from the police authorities of Italy.
On this ECM, after the submission of the affiliation applications in CESP by two countries, Serbia and Kosovo, the ECM voted with unanimity the entrance of the two organizations, the Independent Police Union of Serbia (NSP) as full member and the Kosovo Police Union (KPU) as an observer. With this, CESP Council is enlarged with 2 organizations, having a total of 16 members.
In the framework of the ECM, on May 17, CESP attended the SAP Memorial Day, infront of the Altare della Patria dedicated to the victims of terrorism, mafia and other forms of criminality, laying wreath of flowers as a token of remembrance of all police officers who have lost their lives on duty. CESP President Ricardo Valadas, gave an interview to the media, emphasizing the importance of this day: “This day we remember all the victims, but we have the duty to honor them every day”.
